To celebrate our 4th anniversary in Okeechobee, we cordially invite you to join us for an Open House/Christmas/Anniversary Party on Friday, December 1 from 10:30 am till 6:00 pm. Stop in anytime for a tour of the plant, where you can see our 14 transmitters (most of them 100,000 watts each) and 23 antennas beaming religious, political and cultural programs in many languages 200 hours a day, seven days a week to virtually all parts of the world. WRMI is the largest shortwave radio station in the Western Hemisphere. You can meet members of our staff and clients who broadcast programs on the station. And there will be plenty of food and drink, so please arrive hungry!
WRMI is very pleased to have been part of the Okeechobee community for four years now, and we look forward to being here for many years to come. Our address is below, and your GPS should be able to find it with no problem. We're located 15 miles north of the city of Okeechobee via Highway 441, and then seven miles west on NW 240th Street. AUDIO, 12 NOVEMBER 1947, WHEN GANDHI ADDRESSED THE NATION ON ALL INDIA RADIO

On November 12, 1947 Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the "Mahatma" or "Bapu" as well known, visited for the first and only time the studies of All India Radio in Delhi. In those days, after independence from Britain, the dramatic and sanguinary separation between Hindu and Muslim was consuming, leading to the creation of the new states of India and Pakistan. On the occasion of the visit, the Mahatma spoke directly to Pakistan's Hindu refugees who were thousands of refugees in Kurukshetra refugee camps in the Indian state of Haryana. Just over two months later, on January 30, 1948, Mahtma was assassinated by a Hindu extremist in New Delhi. In memory of this visit, India celebrates the "Public Service Broadcasting Day" on November 12. Gandhi's speech through the All India Radio microphones on November 12, 1947 remains one of the most famous broadcasts through the radio and 70 years away, we also want to remember it with this integral recording networked by the Indian public broadcaster that in the days recently recalled the event with programs and events.

AUDIOCLIP AND RTTY , J5T, ITALIAN DXPEDITION TO GUINEA BISSAU

Basic translation with Google for the non italian Readers:

In November 2017 an Italian DX pedition has activated with the call J5T the island of Bubaque, reference IOTA AF-020, one of the hundreds  islands of the Bijagos archipelago a few miles from the coast of Guinea Bissau to which they belong territorially. The team consisted of: I1HJT Alfeo, I2YSB Silvano, IK2CIO Vinicio, IK2CKR Angelo, IK2DIA Marcello, IK2HKT Stefano, IK2RZP Gino. Many radio amateurs and SWL have had the opportunity to work simultaneously with an IOTA reference and a country of uncommon activation. Supported by a robust technical and logistic organization, the team  have worked unceasingly in all modes  and all bands. The tracks we record here are SSB on 18 MHz and RTTY on 20 meters.
Guinea-Bissau is a small state of West Africa. Like many other states in that region, Guinea Bissau has a colonial past related to the slave trade. The territory was occupied by the Portuguese until 1973 and was the first territory of the Portuguese colonial Africa to obtain independence even before the 1974 Carnation Revolution, which with the return of democracy also put an end to Portuguese colonialism in Africa.

AUDIOCLIP RADIO CAROLINE COME BACK ON MEDIUM WAVE 648 KHz

"On 17th May 2017 Ofcom informed us that our application for an AM licence had been approved and that a licence will be awarded.
This is the end of – or a further step in – a process started by Bob Lawrence in 2010 and enthusiastically supported by Tracey Crouch MP. We thank them both and further thank the many other people who have helped along the way.
The basis of our application was that our traditional heartland was Essex and Suffolk, where the signal from our ships made first landfall and that we wished to entertain on AM, an audience that we have not been able to serve in this way since 1990.
We said that this audience may hear music radio of a style they remember and in some cases presented by the same people they remember.
That in essence is what we intend to do.
We can also announce that our AM frequency will be 648 kHz with a power of 1000 watts. This is ERP or simply the power radiated by the aerial.
A transmitter has been imported from the Continent and is being modified to suit the frequency. There are further hurdles, but as you can see progress is being made. Watch this space!"

This is the end of - or a further step in - a process begun by Bob Lawrence in 2010 and enthusiastically supported by Tracey Crouch MP. We thank them both and further thank the many other people who have helped along the way.The base of our application was that our traditional heartland was Essex and Suffolk, where the signal from our ships made landfall and that we wanted to entertain on AM, a public that we have not been able to serve in this way since 1990.We said that this audience may hear a radio station of a style they remember and in some cases presented by the same people they remember. That in essence is what we intend to do.We can also announce that our AM frequency will be 648 kHz with a power of 1000 watts. This is ERP or simply the power radiated by the aerial. The transmitter has been imported from the Continent and is being modified to suit the frequency. There are further hurdles, but as you can see progress is being made. Watch this space! "
This was reported from their official website http://www.radiocaroline.co.uk
During the summer, Italian news organizations also had news. This report from the Turin newspaper "La Stampa": "Imagine a time machine, back of 50 years, you would have heard on old AM radios (amplitude modulation) a new and nonconforming radio for the era, banned above all In 1964 Radio Caroline started broadcasting on a ship, the MV Ross Revenge anchored outside the territorial waters of Oltremanica, because the land legislation in the United Kingdom and elsewhere ended just a few miles away from Coasts: beyond that limit was in international waters and the law to be observed was that of the country where the ship was registered. If the law of that country had no objections to the radio broadcasting of the sea, it was possible to make a radio heard to whom it was on the mainland without being illegitimate. The myth of Radio Caroline has never been extinguished and those who have passed the doors still remember it. " The full article can be viewed at the following link: http://www.lastampa.it/2017/08/05/societa/la-mitica-radio-caroline-ottiene-la-licenza-dopo-anni-da-pirata- on-mari-QWyBuSKlEukddrCVF8xF0J / page.html

The site www.ilpost.it has recently dedicated an article to the story of Radio Caroline: "At noon on March 28, 1964, Chris Moore and Simon Dee were on a ship off the coast of Essex, southeast of England , and announced the start of broadcasts from Caroline MV - an old Danish passenger ship - broadcasting a pre-recorded message: "This is Radio Caroline on 199, your music station 24 hours a day." The first song that came broadcast was No Fade Away by Rolling Stones, dedicated to Ronan O'Rahilly. The broadcasts of what would become one of the first "pirated radio" in the world and certainly the most famous, whose story inspired the famous movie I Love Radio Rock of 2009. "
In the afternoon of yesterday, the first reports of the airborne presence of Radio Caroline, which was testing 648 KHz, began. Unfortunately in my area the presence of Radio Murski Val from Slovenia makes it impossible to listen directly to the broadcaster and to verify the actual presence of the broadcaster I used the website of the SDR receiver of the Dutch University of Twente . Consequently, listening has no DX value but a mere chronicle of the event. The transmitted soundtrack is obviously in line with the "oldies" tradition of the broadcaster with evergreen epics. No matter how you can hear from the recording, after the announcement with the issuer's identification and the request for listening reports they aired Beatles "Let It Be". For the record, in the late afternoon of yesterday, using tight filters and USB, at a talk time of the issuer solvena, for a few seconds they heard the notes of a musical song, presumably by Radio Caroline. Too little of course to say that I have heard it, maybe in northern Italy will have been better luck, we wait for the reports. No problem listening to the Channel, as shown by the audio clip we propose.

For over half a century Berlin has been the crossroads of all the major actors of the Cold War. Until its physical and metaphoric collapse, the wall dividing the city was the mute witness to political militares, economics and of course all the forms of espionage conceived by the intellgence services of the two blocs. After reunification, espionage structures have been abandoned and abandoned, the most impressive ones remain as a testimony to this dramatic historical period. In the center of the Grunewald Forest there is what was called the "Devil's Mountain", Teufelsberg, an artificial hill of over 120 meters high made with millions of cubic meters of rubble from the bombings of the city during World War II . On the summit of this hill in 1961, the allies began the placement of mobile radio structures, and a radio station was set up since 1963 for the interception of the communications of the German Democratic Republic and the Warsaw Pact. Managing the post was the US National Security Agency (NSA) and was defined by US military "The hill", the hill or "T'Berg". Inside the structure, with no windows to prevent it from being seen from outside the activity that took place, there were 1500 soldiers who were taken from their shuttle buses and deposited directly inside the structure. The main radar was within a tower of nearly 70 meters high and had a radius of action of about 600 km. The radio station was surrounded by three orders of reinforced concrete walls and barbed wire to prevent infiltrations from the east . The site was abandoned in 1992 and since then the area is in full swing. The various redevelopment or change planning projects have never been successful, and for several years the walls of imposing buildings, partly collapsed, have become the "palettes" of the Berlin graffiti. In 2013, some US Army veterans who served on the "Devil's Mountain" commemorated the 50th anniversary of the listening station, also making a memorial plaque. Several tourists venturing "clandestinely" on the hill crossing walls and fencing, challenging the dangers of a disused and now defenseless area, while a nonprofit association organizes on weekends the quietest and safest guided hikes for those who want to revive the atmosphere of the Cold War. There are numerous photographic testimonies of the "Devil's Mountain" on the net, some of which we propose in this article.

The fantasy of the pirates  has no limits. Always looking for what can be news in the small world of radio listening, the weekend radiomaniacians always invent someone. In today's afternoon, among the electric noises of the storms that stormed across the peninsula, someone thought it good to wave the frequency of the 6925 KHz sound of a transmission of probable television extraction, during which a speaker of language Italian translation simultaneously translates the English sermon of one of the many singers in the globe in the Anglo-Saxon countries and is being replayed from various TV channels on the satellite platform in Italy as well. Receiving quite difficult from these parts also due to strong atmospheric noises, but with more intelligible signal in the north of the peninsula as reported by Roberto Pavanello and others. This is an excerpt from the recording made this afternoon

DANDAL KURA RADIO INTERNATIONAL, AUDIOCLIP AND SHORT HISTORY

5960  Dandal Kura Radio 05:00 06:00 1234567 Kanuri 250 65 ASCAscension
5960  Dandal Kura Radio 06:00 07:00 1234567 Kanuri 250 55 ASCAscension
12050  Dandal Kura Radio 18:00 21:00 1234567 Kanuri 250 65 ASCAscension
13810  Dandal Kura Radio 07:00 08:00 1234567 Kanuri 250 165 GWoofferton

Vision

To Establish an International Radio that will essentially tell the story of the Lake Chad Basin Region to the larger world in a way that it promotes peace and prosperity.

Mission

To provide a veritable platform where people from all walks of life, irrespective of personal persuasions, will freely trade their views and ideas in such a way that would promote peace, peaceful coexistence and prosperity in the Lake Chad Basin Region as well as projecting the rich history, culture, concerns, aspirations and achievements of the peoples of this region to the world in a modern and professional way.

Basic translation in english language with google translator to help the non italian readers:

The history of the Kanuri people, albeit unknowingly, is similar to that of the Kurds and other peoples that European colonialism has deprived of homogeneous homogeneous territories, dividing them among the prominent territories of the states. This people has occupied for centuries the reason for the Chadian Lake Basin and had in the past had a proper state. Currently 5 million canons 3 million live in the state of Bormo (Northwestern Nigeria), while the rest reside in the territories of neighboring states: Niger, Cameroon and Chad. One of their rumors, at the media level, is represented by Dandal Kura Radio International, which in addition to local broadcasters serving the Lake Chad region also uses short waves through BBC transmitters from Ascension Island and Woofferton. This schedule from the shorwave info site:

5960 Dandal Kura Radio 05:00 06:00 1234567 Kanuri 250 65 ASCAscension
5960 Dandal Kura Radio 06:00 07:00 1234567 Kanuri 250 55 ASCAscension
12050 Dandal Kura Radio 18:00 21:00 1234567 Kanuri 250 65 ASCAscension
13810 Dandal Kura Radio 07:00 08:00 1234567 Kanuri 250 165 GWoofferton

The listening we suggest was made this morning from 5am to 6pm on the 5960KHz frequency through the transmitting site of the Ascension Island. Broadcasting is almost entirely featured by news and conversation on specific African themes, while the clip is a striking jingle identifier with a subsequent English announcement transmitted to 5.25.

The radio has been of some media interest in having taken a firm stand against the bothered actions of Boko haram in the region as reported for example in this launch of the Askanews Agency:

Kano, (askanews) - Dandal Kura Radio is Nigeria's first radio that explains how to react against Boko Haram. He broadcasts three hours a day since his debut in 2015 in areas controlled by Islamists. Director Umar Said Tudun-Wada explains: "As a media headline, one of the main means we can use to combat the insurrection is to inform listeners, to identify methods and recruitment strategies, because most insurgents are was recruited by misleading means. "After the Boko haram offensive in 2015 in an isolated village in the northeast of the country, at the border with Niger, terrorized residents fled the massacres and looting. From the desperation, the issuer was born, which is located some hundreds of miles from Kano, a large city in northern Nigeria. We now work for 30 people, including eleven reporters. The studios are housed in a building that also houses Radio Liberté, a private broadcaster whose director is always Umar Said Tudun-Wada: "Telling listeners how to respond to common issues," he adds. "How to react when a village is attacked How to react when government deployes troops in place What to do when they see government troops Through these responses, many people have become activists in the good sense of the word."

Network's mission is to contribute to the development of the Chad Lake basin region, as reported on their website:

Vision

To Establish an International Radio that will essentially tell the story of the Lake Chad Basin Region to the larger world in a way that promotes peace and prosperity.

Mission

To provide a true platform where people from all walks of life, irrespective of personal persuasions, will freely trade their views and ideas in such a way that would promote peace, peaceful coexistence and prosperity in the Lake Chad Basin Region as well as projecting the rich history, culture, concerns, aspirations and achievements of the peoples of this region to the world in a modern and professional way.

VIDEO. AUTORADIO RENAULT, FROM LONGWAVE TO DAB

In the late afternoon of October 31, on a Renault Captur, I had a half-hour with the digital radio receiver one of the many multimedia applications controlled through the large touch screen of the car. Of course, relying on the "radio" function, I found that this receiver covers long waves, medium waves, FM bandwidth and DAB. The receiver has the ability to program both manually and automatically the stations that can of course be stored and recalled whenever they want to listen. The antenna used is that provided to the car that has shown great sensitivity. I did not have the capability to detect the receiver specifications, but the listening performed was of great interest to all the bands. The test came out just outside the city of Brescia, in Northern Italy and in this position I was able to hear with great signal the European major bradcaster on medium and long waves. Tuned directly from the Europe 1 receiver, RMC, RTL and Algerian Radial Broadcasting, while with the manual search the BBC listened to the Polish and Czech radio stations. Even more polluted stations in medium waves with good signals from Hungarian radios, Spanish ones, and a good signal from the frankofona radio on the 621 KHz. The FM band is so crowded, but this is normal, since I was a short distance from the Mount of Maddalena antennas, and a few proofs, for me this was the first time I received DAB for various networks, I can not tell which MUX . With the cellphone I have filmed some of these songs that I replay in the video. Obviously, the post does not claim to be exhaustive from a technical point of view but only a testimony of how old and new recording / reception techniques were assembled into a single digital receiver.
