Alle 20.20 del 6 ottobre 1941 una misteriosa voce antifascista si inseriva nel commento ai fatti del giorno di Mario Appelius trasmesso dalle stazioni EIAR. Per tre anni lo "spettro", cosi venne chiamata questa misteriosa voce, costituì una spina nel fianco nelle trasmissioni di propaganda fascista. Solo nel dopoguerra si è venuto a conoscenza della vera identità dello "spettro". Il suo nome era Luigi Polano e la missione di disturbo delle trasmissioni di Appelius gli era affidata direttamente da Palmiro Togliatti.
