Negli anni 90 la radio nazionale islandese (RUV) utilizzava le onde corte per consentire l'ascolto di notizie e programmi ai connazionali al lavoro sull'Oceano Atlantico. La frequenza utilizzata era quella degli 11402 KHz in banda laterale superiore. Il segnale era ricevibile anche qui in Italia e la redazione provvedeva a confermare i rapporti di ricezione in tempi abbastanza rapidi con suggestive cartoline QSL. Il servizio in onde corte non è più attivo da anni, mentre proprio in questi giorni la radio pubblica islandese è al centro delle cronache radiantistiche per la dismissione di uno dei due trasmettitori in onde lunghe che coprono l'impervia isola e una buona parte dell'oceano settentrionale.
In the 90s, the Icelandic National Radio (RUV) used shortwave to allow fellow countrymen working on the Atlantic Ocean to hear news and programs. The frequency used was that of 11402 KHz in the upper sideband. The signal was also receivable here in Italy and the editorial staff confirmed the reception reports fairly quickly with suggestive QSL cards. The shortwave service hasn't been active for years, while in these days the Icelandic public radio is at the center of radio news due to the decommissioning of one of the two longwave transmitters that cover the impervious island and a good part of the northern ocean.
