L'arcipelago-Stato di Vanuatu si trova 1750 Km a est dell'Australia ed una delle poche nazioni di quell'area che dispone di un servizio di onde corte per la diffusione dei propri programmi nazionali. Queste le frequenze impegnate: 3945, 7260 e 9960 KHz secondo questo schema orario pubblicato dal BDXC:

L'ascolto di questa emittente è stato segnalato più volte anche in Europa e questa mattina per circa 40 minuti Radio Vanuatu si è ascoltata con un buon segnale sulla frequenza di 9960 KHz. Programmazione caratterizzata da una lunga conversazione in lingua locale, identificazione e una play list musicale fino alla chiusura delle trasmissioni alle ore 6.58 UTC. L'annuncio di identificazione della stazione è stato mandato in onda alle 6.00 UTC.

Nel mio QTH il canale in onda media dei 621 KHz è solitamente occupato da RNE dalle Isole Baleari che monopolizzano h24 questa frequenza. Oggi pomeriggio, inaspettatamente, per circa mezz'ora dalle 15.40 alle 16.10 UTC è arrivata con un buon segnale Radio Odin, emittente in lingua russa che utilizza il ben noto sito trasmittente di Grigoriopol-Maiac nella Transnistria regione orientale della Moldova amministrata dai filo russi ed autoproclamatasi indipendente dal governo di Chisinau. Come è noto dallo stesso sito vengono diffuse anche le trasmissioni per l'Europa Orientale di TWR nonchè Radio Rossii e Vesti FM. Il periodo di ascolto di questo pomeriggio coincideva con la fase di chiusura delle trasmissioni con musica melodica di artisti russi senza segnale orario o notiziario, con una sola probabile identificazione coincidente con un deterioramento del segnale poco prima delle 16.00 UTC. Il Dopo tale ora il trasmettitore delle Baleari ha ripreso il sopravvento sul canale. I bollettini informativi riportano comunque il termine giornaliero delle trasmissioni alle 16.18. Questo è un estratto dell'ascolto effettuato poco prima delle 16.00.

In my QTH the 621 KHz medium wave channel is usually occupied by RNE from the Balearic Islands which monopolize this frequency 24 hours a day. This afternoon, unexpectedly, for about half an hour from 3.40pm to 4.10pm UTC Radio Odin arrived with a good signal, a Russian-language broadcaster that uses the well-known Grigoriopol-Maiac transmitting site in the Transnistria region, the eastern region of Moldova administered by the pro-Russian and self-proclaimed independent from the Chisinau government. As is known from the same site, the broadcasts for Eastern Europe of TWR as well as Radio Rossii and Vesti FM are also broadcast. This afternoon's listening period coincided with the closing phase of broadcasts featuring melodic music by Russian artists without a time or news signal, with only one probable identification coinciding with a deterioration of the signal shortly before 16.00 UTC. After that time the Balearic transmitter regained control of the channel. However, the information bulletins report the daily end of the broadcasts at 4.18pm. This is an excerpt from the listening carried out shortly before 4.00 pm.

RADIOAMATORI UNGHERESI E RIVOLTA ROMENA DEL 1989 RACCONTATI IN UN BOLLETTINO DI RADIO BUDAPEST

La presenza della radio è sempre stata una costante nello svolgimento degli avvenimenti più importanti del XX secolo. Nel dicembre 1989 una violenta rivolta mise fine al domino di Niacolae Ceausecu e della sua famiglia sulla Romania. Tutti gli eventi ebbero una copertura mediatica in tempo reale fino ad arrivare al processo sommario e all'esecuzione del conducator e della moglie Elena Petrescu il giorno di Natale. Quello della Romania fu l'unico caso di sovvertimento violento di un regime comunista dell'est europeo. Buona parte del territorio fu interessata da gravi episodi di violenza determinando un drammatico stato di emergenza per la popolazione. 

La presenza di radio e televisioni in questi eventi è ben nota al grande pubblico, meno nota ma altrettanto importante è invece l'attività dei radioamatori che in quella situazione di emergenza si attivarono per fornire informazioni in tempo reale e coordinare gli aiuti alla popolazione civile. Le fasi di questa attività vengono ricordate in un articolo di Dennis Herner, radioamatore e redattore del RBSWC-DX NEWS il bollettino di notizie radiantistiche stampato in varie lingue e distribuito mensilmente ai membri del club DX dell'emittente.  

L'articolo, pubblicato circa 6 mesi dopo gli aventi, è una cronistoria dell'aiuto dato dai radioamatori ungheresi ai loro colleghi romeni nei drammatici giorni della rivolta e costituisce una interessante testimonianza d'epoca. Molto probabilmente quello riprodotto è uno degli ultimi bollettini stampati e distribuiti da Radio Budapest che proprio nel corso di quegli anni iniziò a ridurre di molto l'impegno verso l'estero fino ad arrivare gradualmente alla soppressione delle trasmissioni in onde corte. 

The presence of the radio has always been a constant in the unfolding of the most important events of the 20th century. In December 1989 a violent revolt put an end to the domination of Niacolae Ceausecu and his family over Romania. All events had real-time media coverage until the summary trial and execution of the conductor and his wife Elena Petrescu on Christmas Day. That of Romania was the only case of violent subversion of a communist regime in Eastern Europe. A large part of the territory was affected by serious episodes of violence, resulting in a dramatic state of emergency for the population.

The presence of radio and television in these events is well known to the general public, but less known but equally important is the activity of the radio amateurs who in that emergency situation took action to provide real-time information and coordinate aid to the civilian population. The phases of this activity are recalled in an article by Dennis Herner, radio amateur and editor of RBSWC-DX NEWS, the radio news bulletin printed in various languages and distributed monthly to members of the station's DX club.

The article, published about 6 months after the events, is a chronicle of the help given by Hungarian radio amateurs to their Romanian colleagues in the dramatic days of the revolt and constitutes an interesting testimony of the time. Most likely the one reproduced is one of the last bulletins printed and distributed by Radio Budapest which during those years began to greatly reduce its commitment abroad until it gradually abolished shortwave broadcasts.

NEW HAARP TRANSMISSIONS SCHEDULED FROM 4 TO 8 NOVEMBER

HAARP PRESS RELEASE

The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) will be conducting a research campaign November 4-8 UTC, with operating times specified in the table below. Operating frequencies will vary, but all HAARP transmissions will be between 2.8 MHz and 10 MHz. Actual transmit days and times are highly variable based on real-time ionospheric and/or geomagnetic conditions. All information is subject to change. This campaign is being conducted in support of research proposals from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Cornell University, University of Colorado Denver, the University of Florida, and the Georgia Institute of Technology. Some examples of experiments planned for this research campaign are the generation of artificial airglow and the production of ELF and VLF emissions. For more information on artificial airglow and ELF/VLF wave generation with HAARP, see the online HAARP FAQ at https://haarp.gi.alaska.edu/faq. Transmissions at the times noted in bold may benefit from observers collecting receiver power and signal to noise ratio (SNR) as a function of time. These transmissions will be at 3.25 MHz with X-mode polarization and 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off cadence. Please submit data collected for this experiment to uaf-gi-haarp@alaska.edu.
