VATICAN RADIO. POPE FRANCIS' LAST WORDS ON SHORTWAVES, AUDIOCLIP

 

Questa mattina, 21 Aprile 2025, alle 7.35 CET Papa Francesco, che ha dato la sua originale impronta alla chiesa cattolica dell'ultimo decennio,  ci ha lasciato. Proprio ieri, nel giorno di Pasqua, a mezzogiorno, il Papa accompagnato sulla ormai consueta sedia a rotelle, è apparso ai fedeli presenti in Piazza San Pietro dal balcone principale della basilica per impartire con la sua debole voce la sua ultima benedizione Urbi et Orbi. Il Papa ha poi effettuato un giro della piazza sulla papamobile scoperta per quello che è stato il suo ultimo saluto ai fedeli. Il Papa non era presente alla celebrazione della messa pasquale ma era nell'aria la sua partecipazione al momento della benedizione, come poi in effetti è avvenuto. La cerimonia come al solito è stata trasmessa anche in onde corte dalla Radio Vaticana sui 17520 kHz con commento in francese e 17540 kHz con commento in inglese. Proprio su quest'ultima frequenza abbiamo registrato questo video con quelle che sono le sue ultime parole del Papa trasmesse sulle onde corte dalla Radio Vaticana. E' certamente una benedizione Urbi et Orbi che resterà nella storia. Ricordiamo che all'insediamento del suo pontificato fu proprio Papa Francesco a volere la continuazione delle trasmissioni dell'emittente vaticana sulle onde corte in una congiuntura che pareva fosse il prologo all'abbandono di queste di queste frequenze. This morning, April 21, 2025, at 7:35 CET, Pope Francis, who left his original imprint on the Catholic Church of the last decade, left us. Just yesterday, on Easter Sunday, at noon, the Pope accompanied in his now customary wheelchair, appeared to the faithful present in St. Peter's Square from the main balcony of the basilica to impart his last blessing Urbi et Orbi with his weak voice. The Pope then made a tour of the square in the open popemobile for what was his last farewell to the faithful. The Pope was not present at the celebration of the Easter Mass but his participation at the moment of the blessing was in the air, as indeed it then happened. The ceremony, as usual, was also broadcast on short waves by Vatican Radio on 17520 kHz with commentary in French and 17540 kHz with commentary in English. It was on this latter frequency that we recorded this video with what are the Pope's last words broadcast on short waves by Vatican Radio. It is certainly an Urbi et Orbi blessing that will remain in history. Let us remember that at the inauguration of his pontificate it was Pope Francis himself who wanted the Vatican radio station to continue broadcasting on short waves in a situation that seemed to be the prologue to the abandonment of these frequencies. In these years, both during solemn festivities and on the occasion of trips of special geopolitical importance, the Pope's radio has never failed to provide coverage of these events.

QSL CARD FROM HOPE RADIO, PALAU, 9965 KHz

 

La Repubblica di Palau si estende su circa 200 piccole isole ubicate a circa 500 Km a est delle Isole Filippine nella macroregione della Micronesia. Ex possedimento statunitense è formalmente indipendente dal 1994. Da diversi decenni, sia pur con diverse denominazioni, da questa micro nazione opera una stazione religiosa in onde corte fondata da George Otis Sr. per l'organizzazione religiosa "High adventure ministries". Proprio sotto questa denominazione, negli anni '90 ho ascoltato per la prima volta e ricevuto una QSL di conferma da questo country. Successivamente la stazione ha assunto la denominazione di T8WH (T8 è il call radioamatoriale di Palau) come emanazione della WHRI, anch'essa confermata, mentre negli ultimi anni la stazione ha assunto la denominazione di "Hope Radio" che sono riuscito ad ascoltare una sola volta nel 2022. Nei mesi scorsi è stata più volte segnalata, anche in Italia, sulla classica frequenza dei 9965 KHz. Per questioni logistiche non sono riuscito ad ascoltarla, ma questo improvviso interesse per la stazione mi ha ricordato di quel vecchio ascolto e cosi, sperando nella benevolenza degli attuali gestori, nel mese di novembre 2024 ho inviato un rapporto di ricezione di quel vecchio ascolto attraverso il form presente sul loro sito e qualche tempo dopo ho ricevuto un messaggio da parte della V/S Deb Anderson dalla sua email personale, che ovviamente ometto, con una richiesta di chiarimento sulla data del rapporto. Nella risposta le ho spiegato che si trattava di un vecchio ascolto caduto nel dimenticatoio, spiegando che mi sarebbe piaciuto avere una conferma della stazione anche con l'attuale denominazione non ricevendo alcuna risposta. Circa dieci giorni fa, con scarse speranze, ho scritto di nuovo chiedendo se occorressero altre delucidazioni e questa mattina ho ricevuto una email con QSL elettronica allegata. Per gli interessati questo è un segmento dell'ascolto confermato.

The Republic of Palau extends over about 200 small islands located about 500 km east of the Philippine Islands in the macro-region of Micronesia. Formerly a US possession, it has been formally independent since 1994. For several decades, albeit with different names, a religious shortwave station founded by George Otis Sr. for the religious organization "High adventure ministries" has been operating from this micro-nation. It was under this name that in the 90s I heard for the first time and received a confirmation QSL from this country. Subsequently, the station took the name of T8WH (T8 is the amateur radio call of Palau) as an emanation of the WHRI, also confirmed, while in recent years the station took the name of "Hope Radio" which I managed to listen to only once in 2022. In recent months it has been reported several times, even in Italy, on the classic frequency of 9965 KHz. For logistical reasons I was unable to listen to it, but this sudden interest in the station reminded me of that old listening and so, hoping for the benevolence of the current managers, in November 2024 I sent a reception report of that old listening through the form on their site and some time later I received an email from Deb Anderson from her personal email that I obviously omit, with a request for clarification on the date of the report. In the reply I explained that it was an old listening that had fallen into oblivion, explaining that I would have liked to have a confirmation of the station even with the current name, receiving no response. About ten days ago, with little hope, I wrote again asking if further clarifications were needed and this morning I received an email with an electronic QSL attached. For those interested, this is a segment of the confirmed listening.
