Fare i conti con la storia non è mai facile. Con un passato coloniale ancora meno. L'avventura coloniale italiana in Africa è iniziata male ed è finita peggio. Già nelle prime fasi della seconda guerra mondiale il castello di carta messo su in Africa era crollato miseramente e alla sua conclusione non era rimasto nulla. Tuttavia, dopo il trattato di pace, l'Italia continuò la sua presenza, almeno in Somalia, "concessa" in amministrazione fiduciaria da parte delle Nazioni Unite per accompagnare il Paese verso l'indipendenza, cosa che avvenne il primo luglio del 1960 quando il Presidente Gronchi attraverso le onde di Radio Mogadiscio inviò al popolo somalo un messaggio con il quale annunciava la fine dell'amministrazione fiduciaria italiana in Somalia. Tutto era iniziato nel peggiore dei modi, con l'eccidio e il ferimento di molti italiani l'11 gennaio 1948 da parte di estremisti somali. Ambiguo, in quell'occasione il comportamento delle truppe inglesi di occupazione che non intervennero in difesa dei civili italiani. Umberto Terracini Presidente dell'Assemblea Costituente parlò dell' "azzuffarsi di Stati già saturi di dominio e di potenza intorno a terre che potrebbero essere avviate ad una vita pacifica". Nonostante ciò, è forse proprio nel decennio dell' A.F.I.S. che l'Italia, almeno in parte, ha cercato di riscattare il suo passato coloniale, puntando più sulla cultura e l'organizzazione dello Stato piuttosto che sullo sfruttamento coloniale. Nel decennio di amministrazione fiduciaria l'italiano affiancò il somalo come lingua ufficiale di quel territorio e la lingua di Dante, senza più la sua connotazione colonialista poté finalmente godere, almeno in certi ambienti, di una diversa e migliore considerazione. Anche nei mezzi di comunicazione l'italiano venne utilizzato con frequenza e ancora negli anni 70 si poteva ascoltare in radio oppure, come nella clip audio che vi proponiamo, registrata proprio in quel periodo, nell'annuncio multilingue utilizzato all'epoca dal Servizio Radiotelefonico per la sintonia delle stazioni corrispondenti. Purtroppo dal 1991 in poi sappiamo bene come è finita in Somalia. Guerre, divisioni, terrorismo e povertà hanno dilaniato questa nazione che ancora stenta a riprendersi. In questo quadro generale a dir poco catastrofico la radio cerca di dare il proprio contributo con nuove proposte che cercano di rifarsi alla parte "buona" della presenza italiana nel dopoguerra. In tale contesto in nostro Ministero degli Esteri, per tramite dell'ambasciatore Alberto Vecchi, si è fatto promotore del ritorno dell'Italiano a Radio Mogadiscio, l'emittente pubblica che a partire dal primo gennaio di quest'anno produce e trasmette un programma giornaliero di 30 minuti nella nostra lingua. L'annuncio era stato dato lo scorso 7 ottobre con un tweet di Osman Dubbe Ministro della Cultura della Somalia e il primo gennaio un tweet di Radio Mogadiscio ha dato ufficialmente il via a questa iniziativa.

Coming to terms with history is never easy. With an even less colonial past. The Italian colonial adventure in Africa started badly and ended worse. Already in the early stages of the Second World War the house of cards set up in Africa had collapsed miserably and at its conclusion there was nothing left. However, after the peace treaty, Italy continued its presence, at least in Somalia, "granted" in trust by the United Nations to accompany the country towards independence, which happened on 1 July 1960 when the President Gronchi through the waves of Radio Mogadishu sent the Somali people a message announcing the end of the Italian trust administration in Somalia. It all started in the worst way, with the murder and wounding of many Italians on 11 January 1948 by Somali extremists. On that occasion, the behavior of the English occupation troops who did not intervene in defense of the Italian civilians was ambiguous. Umberto Terracini President of the Constituent Assembly spoke of the "brawl of states already saturated with dominion and power around lands that could be set up for a peaceful life". Despite this, it is perhaps precisely in the decade of the A.F.I.S. that Italy, at least in part, has tried to redeem its colonial past, focusing more on the culture and organization of the state rather than on colonial exploitation. In the decade of fiduciary administration, Italian joined Somali as the official language of that territory and the language of Dante, without its colonial connotation being able to finally enjoy, at least in certain circles, a different and better consideration. Even in the media, Italian was used frequently and still in the 1970s it could be listened to on the radio or, as in the audio clip we are proposing, recorded at that time, in the multilingual announcement used at the time by the Radio Telephone Service for tuning of the corresponding stations. Unfortunately, from 1991 on we know how it ended up in Somalia. Wars, divisions, terrorism and poverty have torn apart this nation that is still struggling to recover. In this general framework, to say the least catastrophic, the radio tries to make its own contribution with new proposals that try to refer to the "good" part of the Italian presence after the war. In this context, in our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through Ambassador Alberto Vecchi, he promoted the return of Italian to Radio Mogadishu, the public broadcaster which, starting from January 1st of this year, produces and broadcasts a daily program 30 minutes in our language. The announcement was made on 7 October with a tweet by Osman Dubbe, Minister of Culture of Somalia and on 1 January a tweet from Radio Mogadishu officially kicked off this initiative.
