AUDIOCLIP. 4W1A FROM EAST TIMOR ON 21 MHz

Difficile immaginare una Stato più piccolo e più martoriato di Timor Est (ufficialmente Repubblica Democratica di Timor Est). L'attuale repubblica occupa la parte orientale dell'isola di Timor e fino al 1975 è stata una colonia portoghese. Dichiarata l'indipendenza nel 1975 venne immediatamente occupata dall'esercito della confinante Indonesia. Dopo una lunga fase di guerriglia e un referendum svoltosi sotto il controllo delle Nazioni Unite Timor Est divenne ufficialmente indipendente nel 2002. I problemi non erano finiti perchè all'indipendenza seguirono anni di guerra civile a cui fu messa fine solo dopo l'intervento di peace keeping dell'esercito australiano. La popolazione è a stragrande maggioranza cattolica e il portoghese è tornato ad essere lingua ufficiale dello Stato. La ritrovata stabilità, sia pure fondata su equilibri precari ha consentito un certo sviluppo commerciale dell'area e quindi anche i radioamatori in questi ultimi anni si sono interessati all'attivazione di questo country. In questi giorni una spedizione DX tedesca con il call 4W1A prevista per il 2020 è finalmente attiva da Timor Est e nel tardo pomeriggio era in QSO sui 15 metri con un cospicuo pile up soprattutto dall'Europa. 4W1A SPEDIZIONE DX A TIMOR EST

It is difficult to imagine a smaller and more battered state than East Timor (officially the Democratic Republic of East Timor). The current republic occupies the eastern part of the island of Timor and was a Portuguese colony until 1975. Declared independence in 1975, it was immediately occupied by the army of neighboring Indonesia.
