PALAU, HOTEL WITH (LITTLE) VIEW AND RADIO ROOM

1. La Repubblica di Palau è un piccolo stato sovrano il cui territorio è composto da 250 piccole isole facenti parte della vasta macroregione occidentale dell'Oceano Pacifico conosciuta come Micronesia. Gli appassonati di radio conoscono questo luogo soprattutto per la presenza dell'emittente radiofonica religiosa T8WH, World Harvest Radio,  emanazione della stazione madre WHRI per l'Asia e l'Oceania. Lo scorso fine settimana, nel primo pomeriggio si ascoltava invece con un discreto segnale, come potete ascoltare dalla clip registrata,  la stazione radioamatoriale T88MZ operatore Akira, sula frequenza di 14250 KHz sulla banda dei 20 metri, Controllando il call su QRZ. com ho scoperto che Akira operava dalla sala radio di un albergo di Koror, il VIP Guest Hotel, che pur non offrendo una vista mozzafiato sull' oceano e un design piuttosto anonimo, mette a disposizione degli ospiti con licenza radioamatoriale una potente stazione radio attraverso la quale si può attivare il country T8 con referenza IOTA OC009. Il costo della camera è di circa 60 dollari a notte. Ovviamente, visto il discreto traffico, al momento della prenotazione bisogna controllare che la sala radio non sia già stata riservata per qualche altro ospite.  Scorrendo su internet ho scoperto che esistono diverse testimonianze, compresi diversi filmati su youtube, che testimoniano una notevole attività radiantistica dal VIP Guest Hotel di Koror. A quanto è dato vedere dalle testimonianze in rete l'hotel è frequentato in buona parte da operatori giapponesi anche se non mancano testimonianze di qualche operatore italiano giunto a suo tempo su queste lontanissime isole. C'è da rilevare infine che questo hotel non è unico nel suo genere e che ne esistono altri in varie altre parti del mondo e che generalmente fanno il pienone quando a fine giugno si svolge l'ambito contest IOTA.
