Agostino Straulino è una delle figure più note della marineria italiana del secolo scorso. Originario dell'isola di Lussinpiccolo ha dedicato la sua vita alla navigazione, prima nella merina militare distinguendosi nell'assalto al Porto di Gibilterra e dopo la guerra, dopo che l'esplosione di una mina lo aveva reso ipovedente, nell'attività sportiva velica vincendo una medaglia d'oro olimpica a Helsinki nel 1952 e numerosi titoli mondiali ed europei. E' noto anche per il suo lungo comando della nave scuola "Amerigo Vespucci". Il nominativo speciale II0IADC è invece dedicato a un'altra nave scuola, la "Corsaro II" nota per la crociera del 1961 dal porto di La Spezia alle isole Hawaii per partecipare a diverse gare veliche la cui storia è sintetizzata da Alessandro Golfi IZ0JSD all'interno del folder commemorativo. La QSL ricevuta in questi giorni è relativa ad attività radianristiche del 2015, in occasione del 101° anniversario della nascita dell'ammiraglio, scomparso a Roma nel 2004 all'età di 90 anni.
