Almeno per l'anno in corso il paventato abbandono delle onde corte da parte della Radio Vaticana non ci sarà. Secondo i dati resi resi noti dall'HFCC che ha diramato il primo schedule provvisorio A17, che entrerà in vigore a fine marzo, l'emittente Vaticana concentrerà la sua attività informativa e liturgica su onde corte verso l'Africa, il medio e l'estremo oriente attraverso il sito principale di Santa Maria Galeria e le stazioni relay del Madagascar, Tinang. Palauig, Tinian Island e Greenville. Per l' Europa sono previste solo trasmissioni liturgiche in romeno e ucraino. Due le trasmissioni in lingua italiana: dalle 6.00 alle 6.15 su 15595 KHz e dalle 12 alle 12.20 su 17520 e 17590 KHz. Come è noto l'emittente vaticana da tempo sta puntando soprattutto sulle nuove tecnologie, satellite e internet, per diffondere il proprio emssaggio, puntando soprattutto a un sotanzioso risparmio di budget. Abbastanza clamoroso qualche mese fa il repentino spegnimento della storica frequenza dei 585 KHz che serviva con ottimo segnale l'area metropolitana di Roma e la regione Lazio.
