Nel 1957 il regista ferrarese Florestano Vancini che aveva già all'attivo una importante esperienza documentaristica, un titolo fra tutti "La lunga notte del 43", si cimentò in un cortometraggio sulla dura vita dei pescatori di San Benedetto del Tronto, città delle Marche, sede di un importante porto porto peschereccio e della stazione radio costiera San Benedetto Radio, la cui storia abbiamo narrato in un altro post di questo blog. Il cortometraggio ricostruisce la dura giornata di lavoro di un gruppo di lavoratori del mare la cui vita è scandita dalle condizioni del mare e dai contatti giornalieri con la radio costiera da cui arrivano le istruzioni e gli ordini degli armatori. Il documentario inizia proprio con la ricostruzione di un contatto tra San Benedetto Radio e un peschereccio impegnato nella sua attività nell'Adriatico meridionale e da questo incipit si sviluppa una trama semplice, in stile "verista",sui momenti salienti della dura vita di bordo. Uno spaccato d'epoca che ricostruisce in maniera efficace le difficoltà e le fatiche dei lavoratori del mare.
In 1957 the Ferrarese director Florestano Vancini who already had an important documentary experience under his belt, a title among all "The long night of 43", ventured into a short film on the hard life of the fishermen of San Benedetto del Tronto, city of the Marche, home to an important fishing port and the San Benedetto Radio coastal radio station, whose story we told in another post of this blog. The short film reconstructs the hard working day of a group of sea workers whose life is marked by the sea conditions and by daily contacts with the coastal radio from which the shipowners' instructions and orders arrive. The documentary begins with the reconstruction of a contact between San Benedetto Radio and a fishing boat engaged in its activity in the southern Adriatic and from this incipit a simple plot develops, in a "verista" style, on the salient moments of the hard life on board. A period cross-section that effectively reconstructs the difficulties and efforts of sea workers.
