La Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, sponsorizzata dalla Rolex, è una delle regate più prestigiose e difficili del mondo della vela. Un percorso duro, di oltre 600 miglia nautiche, che parte dal New South Wales e arriva nel capoluogo dell'isola di Tasmania. La gara è partita ieri e l'arrivo finale per tutte le categorie è previsto per il primo gennaio. I super yacht però sono in grado di percorrere questa distanza in poco più di due giorni, mentre il record assoluto è detenuto da "Wild Oats XI" che in un paio di occasioni ha concluso la gara in un giorno e 18 ore. La gara costituisce anche un tradizionale appuntamento per gli appassionati di radio dell'emisfero meridionale che possono seguire sulle onde corte le comunicazioni, le previsioni del tempo e le condizioni del mare durante la regata. La frequenza principale è quella dei 4483 KHz in USB, mentre la frequenza secondaria è quella dei 6516 KHz monitorata dalla nave "JBW" che segue la gara, funge da stazione relay per le comunicazioni. Utilizzando un SDR KIWI on line ubicato presso Sydney abbiamo monitorato per una mezz'ora la frequenza principale dei 4483 KHz intorno alle 19.30 UTC di ieri sera, ascoltando un intenso traffico di cui vi proponiamo qualche estratto.
The Rolex-sponsored Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is one of the most prestigious and difficult races in the world of sailing. A tough route, over 600 nautical miles, which starts in New South Wales and arrives in the capital of the island of Tasmania. The race started yesterday and the final finish for all categories is scheduled for January 1st. The super yachts, however, are able to cover this distance in just over two days, while the absolute record is held by "Wild Oats XI" who on a couple of occasions finished the race in one day and 18 hours. The race is also a traditional rendezvous for Southern Hemisphere radio enthusiasts who can follow shortwave communications, weather forecasts and sea conditions during the race. The main frequency is that of 4483 KHz in USB, while the secondary frequency is that of 6516 KHz monitored by the ship "JBW" which follows the race, acts as a relay station for communications. Using an on-line SDR KIWI located near Sydney we monitored the main frequency of 4483 KHz around 19.30 UTC last night for half an hour, listening to intense traffic of which we offer some excerpts.
