A conferma della passione, dell'impegno e della sensibilità nei confronti degli appassionati di radioascolto da parte del personale che opera nelle stazioni costiere, ho ricevuto questa ottima conferma, completa di tutti i dati di ricezione, dalla ZLM, Taupo Radio, dalla Nuova Zelanda per una ricezione in DSC sulla frequenza di 12577,5 KHz. La risposta è arrivata dopo 9 giorni dopo aver inviato il rapporto all'email maritime@kordia.co.nz . Il V/S è il radio operatore Darren Hill che insieme alla conferma mi ha inviato anche una breve ma gentile email di ringraziamento nella quale mi invita a visitare la sua pagina di radioamatore (call ZL2SDX) su QRZ.COM . Ovviamente sono andato a visitare la pagina ed è stato interessante leggere la breve biografia di Darren che a contatto col mare ha trascorso gran parte della sua esistenza. Queste le sue note autobiografiche che contengono anche interessanti informazioni su Taupo Radio:
"Mentre ero in mare aperto ho anche ottenuto la mia licenza GMDSS "Global Maritime Distress Safety System" Radio Officer, che a volte è stata molto divertente e anche molto stressante. Questa qualifica più avanti mi ha aiutato a ottenere il mio attuale ruolo di Radio Operator per Maritime New Zealand. Che pratichiamo GMDSS - SOLAS "salvare vite in mare". Sono rimasto molto sorpreso dalla vasta area oceanica che è la Nav-area 14 coperta da ZL. Che va dalle isole del Pacifico fino all'Antartide e a metà strada fino al Cile, quindi puoi immaginare un'area piuttosto ampia. Disponiamo di 30 siti VHF che coprono l'Isola del Nord e del Sud della Nuova Zelanda, comprese le Isole Chatham, e ascoltiamo quotidianamente sul canale 16 il canale di soccorso e le frequenze operative; anche l'HF copre le frequenze di soccorso 2182, 4125, 6125, 8291, 12290, 16420 e i canali operativi; la "chiamata selettiva digitale" DSC viene utilizzata insieme a Inmarsat C. Disponiamo di numerose funzionalità eccezionali che ci aiutano in questo ruolo, come il tracciamento automatico AIS delle imbarcazioni in base alla loro posizione attuale in tempo reale, il che è una risorsa preziosa in una situazione di pericolo".

As a confirmation of the passion, commitment and sensitivity towards radio listening enthusiasts by personnel operating in coastal stations, I received this excellent confirmation, complete with all reception data, from ZLM, Taupo Radio, New Zealand for a DSC reception on the frequency of 12577.5 KHz. The response arrived 9 days after sending the report to the email maritime@kordia.co.nz . The V/S is radio operator Darren Hill who together with the confirmation also sent me a short but kind email of thanks in which he invited me to visit his amateur radio page (call ZL2SDX) on QRZ.COM . Obviously I went to visit the page and it was interesting to read the short biography of Darren who has spent a large part of his existence in contact with the sea. Here are his autobiographical notes which also contain interesting information about Taupo Radio:
"While I was offshore I also obtained my GMDSS "Global Maritime Distress Safety System" Radio Officer licence, which was at times great fun and also very stressful. This qualification later helped me to obtain my current role as a Radio Operator for Maritime New Zealand. We practice GMDSS - SOLAS "saving lives at sea". I was very surprised by the vast ocean area that is Nav-area 14 covered by ZL. That goes from the Pacific Islands all the way to Antarctica and half way to Chile, so you can imagine quite a large area. We have 30 VHF sites covering the North and South Island of New Zealand including the Chatham Islands and we listen daily on channel 16 the distress channel and operating frequencies, also HF covers distress frequencies 2182, 4125, 6125, 8291, 12290, 16420 and operational channels; DSC ‘digital selective calling’ is used in conjunction with Inmarsat C. We have a number of outstanding features that help us in this role, such as automatic AIS tracking of vessels based on their current position in real time, which is an invaluable asset in a distress situation.”
