PRESIDENT MATTARELLA, THE LAST YEAR-END SPEECH (ALSO IN MEDIUM WAVES)

 

Come da antica consuetudine anche quest'anno vi riproponiamo il discorso di fine anno del Presidente della Repubblica Italiana ritrasmesso attraverso le onde medie. Ancora una volta la frequenza migliore per avere una buona qualità audio dell'evento è stata quella di 900 KHz di Milano Siziano che ripete i programmi di RAI RADIO1. Il discorso di quest'anno è l'ultimo pronunciato dal Presidente Sergio Mattarella alla fine del suo mandato, ma anche l'ultimo discorso di un Presidente della Repubblica trasmesso in onde medie, visto che nel corso del 2022 il servizio pubblico cesserà definitivamente di trasmettere su questa banda, lasciando un vuoto oggettivamente preoccupante.

Come preannunciato da una email, dopo 10 giorni è arrivata anche la QSL cartacea di Aasiaat Radio la stazione costiera della Groenlandia ricevuta qualche anno fa in modo DSC sulla frequenza di chiamata di 2187,5 KHz. Rapporto inviato all'indirizzo di posta elettronica oyr(at)tusass.gl.

Il canale dei 531 KHz per lungo tempo utilizzato da Jil FM è attualmente occupato da Radio Algerie Internationale che dal febbraio di quest'anno diffonde attraverso il potente sito trasmittente di F'Kirina  la sua programmazione per l'estero. La programmazione oltre che in arabo è francese è caratterizzata anche da segmenti informativi in inglese e in spagnolo. Uno dei segmenti in lingua spagnola viene messo in onda alle 14.00 UTC e si compone di un notiziario seguito da commenti riguardanti il mondo arabo e in particolare sulle annose vicende che caratterizzano la regione del Sahara occidentale e il contenzioso con il Marocco. Segnale buono durante tutto l'arco della giornata con caratteristiche di eccellenza a partire dal tardo pomeriggio. Nella clip audio vi proponiamo l'inizio della trasmissione delle 14.00 con l'identificazione della stazione e il notiziario.

Con la più vicina Radio Murski Val in isofrequenza non è agevole ascoltare Radio Caroline a sud di Roma. Era accaduto in passato nel corso di una delle rare pause audio dell'emittente slovena ed è accaduto la sera del 29 dicembre 2021 quando, complice la propagazione e l'aumentata potenza dell'emittente britannica, per circa mezz'ora è stato relativamente facile ascoltare alcuni segmenti di trasmissione d'Oltremanica e identificare la musica trasmessa. La conferma, come vedete è arrivata nel giro di 48 ore. Indirizzo email dell'emittente e V/S identificabili sulla QSL ed email condivise con voi.

1999 THE "ON AIR" STRIKE OF THE ITALIAN MARCONISTS

 

Da circa 20 anni il marconista è scomparso dalle navi. Questa figura misteriosa e romantica che aveva sulle spalle la gravosa responsabilità delle comunicazioni tra le navi e la terraferma, la gestione delle liste di traffico, nonché delle comunicazioni, a quei tempi non agevoli e costose, tra i marittimi e le famiglie lontane migliaia di chilometri, è stata soppiantata nel giro di qualche anno dai moderni sistemi di comunicazione digitali e satellitari che hanno mandato in pensione anche il vecchio “SOS” o “MAY DAY” lanciato in fonia o in telegrafia dall’operatore radio di bordo, che in caso di emergenza doveva mantenere  freddezza e lucidità  fuori dal comune. Il marconista gestiva fonia, telegrafia e radiotelescriventi che generalmente operavano in RTTY, SITOR-A e SITOR-B e gestiva il sistema di radiogoniometro che consentiva l’esatta impostazione della rotta della nave. Le comunicazioni tra naviglio e armatore erano frequenti. Attraverso la radio arrivavano istruzioni, listini cambi, quotazione delle materie prime, tutte informazioni propedeutiche al raggiungimento del risultato economico della crociera. I bollettini meteo costituivano una parte importante delle comunicazioni di bordo. Dalla loro tempestiva diffusione e ricezione poteva dipendere l’esito del viaggio. I marconisti erano anche i responsabili di quella che oggi verrebbe chiamata “telemedicina”, solo che a quei tempi per le emergenze sanitarie ci si collegava via radio a centri con personale sanitario specializzato come il CIRM di Roma che in base alle informazioni fornite dalla nave doveva decidere le terapie o gli interventi che doveva effettuare il personale di bordo in caso di malattia o incidente. Anche queste emergenze venivano mediate dagli operatori radio della nave.

Nel 1999 vennero approvati nuovi protocolli di comunicazione per le attività marittime e in poco tempo sarebbero scomparsi dall’etere i tantissimi segnali di identificazione delle stazioni radio marittime che in tutto il mondo segnalavano la loro presenza trasmettendo in CW il proprio call sign sulle frequenze assegnate, sia in trasmissione che in ricezione, in attesa delle chiamate o delle liste di traffico. Molti marconisti, soprattutto quelli con molta anzianità di servizio, si sarebbero ritrovati senza lavoro nel giro di pochi mesi. In caso di vertenze lavorative il ricorso allo sciopero e alle assemblee di fabbrica sono strumenti consueti. Generalmente i sindacati di categoria stabiliscono una linea di condotta e le rivendicazioni, convocano delle assemblee per sottoporle all' approvazione dei lavoratori per poi presentarsi al tavolo di trattativa con le controparti. Come potevano riunirsi in assemblea i marconisti se non via radio ? Verso la fine del 1999 e per diversi mesi i marconisti italiani, dopo le 21.00, si riunirono in assemblea creando un net giornaliero sulla frequenza di 4143 KHz. In quel periodo mi appassionai non poco alla vicenda e in diverse occasioni mi misi in ascolto su questa frequenza. Durante uno di questi ascolti, due marconisti si scambiarono dei dati per combinare un appuntamento una volta sbarcati e cosi, con un po' di faccia tosta, tipica della gioventù, mi misi in contatto con uno di loro immaginando di venire zittito dopo 5 secondi, invece il marconista, Gianni, il suo nome, col suo  spiccato accento veneto, fu davvero felice che qualcuno avesse a cuore il futuro lavorativo della sua categoria e si rese immediatamente disponibile a confermarmi l’ascolto del net nel quale lo avevo ascoltato. Preparai una QSL ppc utilizzando una cartolina postale filatelica, gliela spedii e pochi giorni dopo mi fu rispedita compilata e firmata dall’operatore che di li a pochi giorni si sarebbe anche recato a Roma per il tavolo di trattativa.

Di li a qualche mese sulle bande marittime ci sarebbe stato un silenzio quasi assoluto, interrotto solo dalle 2 o 3 stazioni che ancora marcano il canale con il loro call in telegrafia. In ricordo di quel periodo e di quella particolare vertenza sindacale via radio mi rimane la QSL firmata da Gianni, marconista dell’Espresso Ravenna (ICKV) che a 21 anni di distanza ho il piacere di condividere con voi.

A few months later on the maritime bands there would have been almost absolute silence, interrupted only by the 2 or 3 stations that still mark the channel with their telegraphic call.

In memory of that period and that particular trade union dispute via radio, I am left with the QSL signed by Gianni, radio operator of Espresso Ravenna (ICKV) which, 21 years later, I am pleased to share with you.

AUDIOCLIP, ROLEX SYDNEY HOBART YACHT RACE, MONITORING THE PRIMARY FREQUENCY OF 4483 KHz

La partenza della gara

La Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, sponsorizzata dalla Rolex, è una delle regate più prestigiose e difficili del mondo della vela. Un percorso duro, di oltre 600 miglia nautiche, che parte dal New South Wales e arriva nel capoluogo dell'isola di Tasmania. La gara è partita ieri e l'arrivo finale per tutte le categorie è previsto per il primo gennaio. I super yacht però sono in grado di percorrere questa distanza in poco più di due giorni, mentre il record assoluto è detenuto da "Wild Oats XI" che in un paio di occasioni ha concluso la gara in un giorno e 18 ore. La gara costituisce anche un tradizionale appuntamento per gli appassionati di radio dell'emisfero meridionale che possono seguire sulle onde corte le comunicazioni, le previsioni del tempo e le condizioni del mare durante la regata. La frequenza principale è quella dei 4483 KHz in USB, mentre la frequenza secondaria è quella dei 6516 KHz monitorata dalla nave "JBW" che segue la gara, funge da stazione relay per le comunicazioni. Utilizzando un SDR KIWI on line ubicato presso Sydney abbiamo monitorato per una mezz'ora la frequenza principale dei 4483 KHz intorno alle 19.30 UTC di ieri sera, ascoltando un intenso traffico di cui vi proponiamo qualche estratto.

Marconisti della Marina mercantile, figure ormai scomparse a bordo delle navi

Nella serata di ieri, 24 dicembre 2021 la NDR di Amburgo ha emesso in onde corte la tradizionale trasmissione "Saluti a bordo" dedicata ai marittimi tedeschi in navigazione in tutto il mondo. Un classico programma dediche, come quelli di una volta, nel corso del quale i lavoratori del mare e le famiglie lontane si scambiano saluti ed auguri attraverso l'etere. Non dubitiamo che gli stessi siano in contatto attraverso i più agevoli servizi di messaggistica e videochiamata forniti dal web, ma questo modo di essere vicini alle famiglie che fino a qualche decennio fa era l'unico possibile per questa categoria di lavoratori, ci ricorda in modo fattivo la durezza di questo lavoro che è fondamrentale per l'economia, la circolazione di merci e materie prime di ogni genere e in definitiva, per il benessere di tante persone. Nel nostro piccolo anche noi vogliamo ringraziare queste persone che con il loro duro lavoro ci rendono la vita un po pià facile. Come tutti gli anni abbiamo registrato qualche stralcio della trasmissione in onde corte, questa volta sulla frequenza dei 6080 KHz dedicata all'ascolto europeo. 

 

Yesterday evening, 24 December 2021, the Hamburg NDR broadcast the traditional "Greetings aboard" broadcast on shortwave dedicated to German seafarers sailing all over the world. A classic dedication program, like those of the past, during which sea workers and distant families exchange greetings and wishes across the ether. We do not doubt that they are in contact through the easiest messaging and video calling services provided by the web, but this way of being close to families, which until a few decades ago was the only one possible for this category of workers, reminds us in a way that the hardness of this work which is fundamental for the economy, the circulation of goods and raw materials of all kinds and ultimately for the well-being of many people is effective. In our own small way we too want to thank these people who with their hard work make our life a little easier. Like every year we have recorded some excerpts of the short wave transmission, this time on the 6080 KHz frequency dedicated to European listening.

FESTIVAL OF NINE LESSONS AND CAROLS VIA BBC RADIO 4 198 KHZ

 

Il "Festival of nine lessons and Carols" è un tradizionale servizio religioso della vigilia di Natale strutturato in riflessioni tratte dalle sacre scritture (le lezioni) a cura di ecclesiastici e rappresntanti della città di Cambridge e il suggestivo accompagnamento  musicale del coro del King's College di Cambridge che esegue tutti i canti della tradizione natalizia anglosassone. Nato negli ultimi anni del XIX secolo il servizio è stato codificato nel 1918 e da allora si svolge annualmente senza sostanziali variazioni. La BBC ha iniziato a trasmetterlo nel 1928, sia per le isole britanniche che per le colonie, non interrompendo questa consuetudine nemmeno nel periodo bellico. Le "nine lessons" sono uno degli eventi più attesi e suguiti della BBC che le trasmette in diretta nel pomeriggio della vigilia di Natale attraverso RADIO 4 e in differita il giorno di Natale attraverso il network di RADIO 3. Come di consueto abbiamo registrato gli ultimi minuti di trasmissione sulle onde lunghe dei 198 KHz di Droitwich e con questa bellissima musica che comprende l'Adeste fideles e l'inno "Hark ! The herald angel sing" vi auguriamo BUON NATALE !

 

The "Festival of nine lessons and Carols" is a traditional Christmas Eve religious service structured in religious reflections (the lessons) by religious and representatives of the city of Cambridge and the evocative musical accompaniment of the King's College Cambridge choir performing all the songs of the Anglo-Saxon Christmas tradition. Born in the last years of the nineteenth century, the service was codified in 1918 and has been held annually since then without substantial changes. The BBC began broadcasting it in 1928, both for the British Isles and for the colonies, not interrupting this practice even in the war period. The "nine lessons" are one of the most anticipated and suggested events of the BBC which broadcasts them live on the afternoon of Christmas Eve through RADIO 4 and on Christmas Day through the RADIO 3 network. minutes of broadcast on the long waves of 198 KHz of Droitwich and with this beautiful music that includes the Adeste fideles and the hymn "Hark! SAQ Grimeton Christmas Eve 2021 Transmission on December 24th AUDIOCLIP AND VIDEO

 

Un alternatore costruito 100 anni fa, un sito trasmittente composto da torri alte più di 200 metri destinato alle comunicazini telegrafiche senza fili con le Americhe divenuto patrimonio dell'UNESCO. Siamo a Varberg, non lontano da Goteborg, Svezia, il call sign del trasmettitore è SAQ o Grimeton Radio. L'alternatore viene acceso 2 volte l'anno, all'inizio dell'estate e la mattina della vigilia di Natale. In questa occasione, gli operatori "Babbo Natale" trasmettono un messaggio d'auguri atteso dai radioamatori e gli appassionati di radio in genere di tutto il mondo sulla frequenza VLF di 17,2 KHz.  La fondazione ha anche un canale Youtube attraverso il quale è possibile seguire in diretta sia le fasi di attivazione dell'alternatore che la trasmissione dell'identificatiovo e del messaggio. 

 

 

An alternator built 100 years ago, a transmitting site made up of towers over 200 meters high intended for wireless telegraphic communications with the Americas which has become a UNESCO heritage site. We are in Varberg, not far from Gothenburg, Sweden, the call sign of the transmitter is SAQ or Grimeton Radio. The alternator is switched on twice a year, in early summer and on the morning of Christmas Eve. On this occasion, the "Santa Claus" operators transmit a message of greeting awaited by radio amateurs and radio enthusiasts in general from all over the world on the VLF frequency of 17.2 KHz. The foundation also has a Youtube channel through which it is possible to follow live both the activation phases of the alternator and the transmission of the identification and the message.

E ciò sui più svariati canali e modalità tecniche, così da garantire la ricezione dei saluti e dei messaggi anche su tutti e sette i mari.

Greetings on board ": This is how you receive the broadcast

On Christmas Eve, greetings are sent to seafarers all over the world on NDR Info from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

And that on the most varied of channels and technical ways, so that the greetings and messages can also be guaranteed to be received on all seven seas.

The ship's crews have several options for receiving the program "Greetings on board". Shortwave is one of them.

GRANDI ASCOLTI PER LA COMMEMORAZIONE MARCONIANA. LE QSL DI AM ITALIA IN ARRIVO DOPO LE FESTE

Poco più di una settimana fa AM Italia ha mandato in onda una commemorazione marconiana dedicata alla prima trasmissione radio transoceanica tra Cornovaglia e Terranova. Ieri sera il Dr, Maurizio Anselmo titolare dell'emittente ha inviato una email comunicando il successo della trasmissione e allo stesso tempo il dilatarsi dei tempi di conferma rimandati a dopo le feste proprio a causa dell'inaspettato numero di richieste. A little over a week ago AM Italia broadcast a Marconian commemoration dedicated to the first transoceanic radio transmission between Cornwall and Newfoundland. Last night, Dr Maurizio Anselmo, owner of the broadcaster, sent an email communicating the success of the transmission and at the same time the extension of the confirmation times postponed until after the holidays precisely because of the unexpected number of requests. Poco più di 24 ore fa ho inviato ad Aasiaat Radio, Groenlandia, un rapporto d'ascolto, via email, relativo ad un ascolto effettuato qualche anno fa sui 2187,5 KHz nel modo DSC. Oggi ho ricevuto una email da Bo Mogensen, responsabile della stazione, con la quale mi si ringrazia del rapporto di ascolto e mi preannuncia la spedizione di una conferma cartacea che a questo punto aspetto con ansia. A little over 24 hours ago I sent to Aasiaat Radio, Greenland, a listening report, via email, relating to a listening made a few years ago on 2187.5 KHz in DSC mode. Today I received an email from Bo Mogensen, manager of the station, with which he thanks me for the listening report and announces the sending of a paper confirmation which at this point I am looking forward to.
